Growing up in central Florida, Ty was never far from the water in his younger years. He earned his Open Water certification in 2009, then spent the next 13 years as an occasional vacation diver. That all changed when he got his wife into diving. One email to Virginia Scuba for an Open Water course later, and he'd stumbled into the dive family.

Ty and his wife experienced the Continuing Education courses together, and in 2025 he completed his Divemaster evaluations and joined the Virginia Scuba staff.

By day, Ty works a nerdy technical job. Diving is the antidote — the moment he hits the water, everything slows down. The sea life, the weightlessness, the tranquility: there's nothing else like it. And getting to explore places most humans never see? That's not an opportunity to pass up. The culture at Virginia Scuba made it an easy call to go all in.
